Call for Volunteer – Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam: Family All-Ages (CNPE) – Exam Validation Committee

The College is looking for a volunteer representative to sit on the CNPE: F/AA Exam Validation Committee. The term is a three (3) appointment with a requirement to travel to Ottawa yearly (September) for an in-person committee meeting. Travel costs are covered by the exam vendor.

The College is in the process transitioning from the CNPE: FAA exam to the new Canadian Nurse Practitioner Licensure Exam (CNPLE) so the selected individual will move over to the CNPLE Exam Validation Committee representative during their term.

2026 Meeting (Ottawa) – September 21-26

Additional meetings and/or teleconferences are arranged as needed.

The qualifications and exclusion criteria for NPs interested in participating are listed below. Interested individuals should email the Director of Registration Brad Walsh at bwalsh@nlcn.ca for a copy of the NP exam development volunteer application.

The deadline for submitting your application is Wednesday June 24, 2026.

The College will review submitted applications and select one individual as the NL committee representative.

Criteria for Membership

Each CNPE: F/AA Exam Validation Committee member is expected to:

  1. Be licensed/registered in good standing as a Family All-Ages (F/AA) Nurse Practitioner.
  2. Practice a minimum of 20 hours/week in the F/AA NP role; specifically, engaging in clinical practice that involves advanced health assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a F/AA client population.
  3. Be familiar with the theoretical and clinical content measured by the exam
  4. Be familiar with jurisdictional regulations and standards governing NPs
  5. Be knowledgeable about entry level NP competencies.
  6. Be knowledgeable about the role of nursing regulators and the purpose of licensure/registration exams.
  7. Be able to work well in a group (e.g., negotiating, achieving consensus, accepting feedback / constructive criticism)
  8. Be able to travel, as required (once a year).
  9. Agree to, sign and abide by the Security Agreement.

CNPE: F/AA Exam Validation Committee members have access to the current form of the exam; therefore, NPs involved in the following activities are not eligible for membership:

It is desirable for the members of the CNPE: F/AA Exam Validation Committee to have knowledge of test construction, gained through either academic preparation and /or hands-on experience.
